Type of a scam Tech Support

I was searching the Internet when the computer sounded a shrill audio alert and a box appeared with a visual notification saying I had a Trojan virus and information on my Mac computer had been accessed by others. I assumed the alert was from Apple. It gave an 888 number to call, which I did. The person who answered had an Indian accent. He said my computer had been compromised. He asked for access to my computer so he could see what was going on. I obliged. He showed me a list of external sites that had “established” themselves on my IP address. He then said he had frozen my IP address so no one could access my computer and he could clean it up for a 200+ dollar charge. I expressed concern that he might not be with Apple, and he gave me his Apple employee ID number hand asked me to write it down. He then said he would clean the computer but was going to connect me with another person who would set up a security firewall so no one could hack my computer in the future. The other person also had an Indian accent. He “sold” me a lifetime protection package for $900+. He then proceeded to go through my computer for about a half hour or more to supposedly set up the firewall.
