Type of a scam Tech Support

I received a message on my phone that i had a serious virus and needed to take care of it right away along with a phone number to call. This was not a text, but a screen that popped up. I had been getting "warnings" on my devices (laptop, phone, kindle) over a period of time that i had ignored and thought that this was as a result of that. I called the number and was told that they could help. They were extremely professional and kind and knowledgeable. They had me connect my phone into my computer and we went through the list of warnings and apparent virus/malware that was so serious. They proceeded to tell me that i didn’t have a firewall and they took care of that and supposedly cleaned up my laptop and that i was good to go. They charged me $*** and that included 1 year of 365 24/7 tech support. I called the number about 6 weeks later to have my laptop cleaned as they said to do, and the contact number had been disconnected. I’m not sure what they did to my laptop but as embarrassing and shameful as this is, I know there are others out there that could and have been scammed by these people.
