Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order

My mother received a priority mail envelope containing a letter and a check for $2,420.00 to go purchase two thousand dollars worth of Walmart gift cards and was to keep $420.00. She was supposed to buy them and scratch off the back and send via text/email, a picture of both the gift cards and receipt. It just seemed to good to be true. She is living off of social security and this would hurt her immensely if it backfired. I researched it a bit and found that this has happened to numerous others. In many cases it did end up being fraud and the money was taken from innocent people to pay back the fraudulent check that was cashed. I hope reporting this will help take these criminals off of the street.

I received a letter and offer of employment as a "secret" shopper at Walmart. The cashiers check for $2420.00 was deposited in my checking account with no trouble. I was to purchase Walmart gift cards totaling $2000.00 – email photos of the cards along with copies of the recipts after scratching off the back of the cards. I later found out it is a SCAM. Thank goodness I did not complete the transqaction. At the worst I have $2000.00 of gift cards to use at the local Walmart. If I had sent the photos along with the receipts I would be out the $$$ plus my checking account would have the $2420.00 deducted!

These scammers contact you through a job website as a mystery shopper. Once you fill out any information they contact you informing you that you’ve been selected as a mystery shopper and your name and address is needed to send the check and assignment. Once received they will tell you cash or deposit the check and keep $420 for yourself and buy $2000 in gift cards. 5 at $400 each. Then they say take pictures of them send the codes and receipts and send an email telling about the customer service and wait for the second assignment and if it goes well you’ll get a bonus of $150 bonus. So glad I didn’t fall for this!!! Please, Don’t let Anyone Else!!!!
