Type of a scam Tech Support

On April 23, I received a message on my computer advising me not to turn off or reboot my computer as this action will erase all my data. A 1-866 number was given for me to contact. It was identified as a Microsoft Corporation number. However, when contacted, the number provided actually belonged to Vmak Technologies otherwise known as Virus Eraser Inc. They told me to pay $307 for them to fix the problem. In addition, they have a very aggressive sales tactic. They told me that it was the network that got hacked, not just the computer. For 3 different packages ranging from $400 to $899, they can protect my network, therefore, no one can hack my banking info., etc. I agreed to pay $307 to fix the immediate threat but refused everything else. I told to them I need a second expert opinion. They threatened that my computer will be hacked again if I don’t take action. I still refused. After having spoken to several IT experts, I was told that I have been scammed. It has never happened to me before so I am disturbed and angry! Watch out as it might happen to you too! Ignore that message if you see it on your computer. Take your computer to a local IT expert if you are worried.
