Type of a scam Tech Support

My computer locked-up. A message appeared saying that my computer had been seized and that I needed to call the phone number on the screen. I did call the number, they took control of my laptop from their location. I was told that if I wanted my computer to return to normal it would cost $399.99. They continued and convinced me to pay it by credit card. The monies paid would include 3 years of firewall, 2 years of McAfee, 3 years of their technical service. My laptop has worked ok since, but….. I feel it should not have been seized in the first place. I have since removed what was included in the payment..

Approximately 2 months later, my friend in another state, got the same message on their laptop. When he called the number he refused to pay and accused them of a scam. The amount he was asked to pay was $150. He did not pay it and still has use of his laptop.

I contacted my credit card co. to dispute. I was told that vcare llc delivered the service so there was no grounds for a dispute. Therefore I was stuck with the $400 charge.

I’m sure this is being pulled on a lot of people, I guess they assume how gullible a person is as to what they charge. Ugh! Apparently they are protecting themselves by being a limited liability company.

When calling the phone number provided you get a recording in another language….
