Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order
I had someone contact me named Peter Gehrmann regarding an offer to be a mystery shopper. He was persistent in his reach out from initial contact to congratulating me on being chosen to following up with receiving my package he tracked the USPS package number and knew when it was delivered) and three follow up emails wanting to confirm my receipt of the package and wanting contact with me. The package included a check for over $2900.00 and elaborate instructions to go to *** *** (or other stores on his list) purchase $2500.00 worth of EBay gift cards, scratch off the silver part, take pictures of front and back and email the pictures to [email protected] I contacted the bank names on the check and it was a bogus routing number, yet the check looks real.
BEWARE this was one of the most elaborate scams I’ve seen to date. If it’s too good to be true….ITS A HOAX.
