Type of a scam Online Purchase

Signed up for a free trial of wrinkle and eye cream on line – companies are Tru Belleza and Stemologica. Provided credit card information with expectation to be charged C$5.99 for shipping and handling, charge to appear on statement as beautelux.com and C$5.95 for shipping and handling charge to appear on statement as stemabelle.com. In subsequently learned that hidden away somewhere on the website you are actually agreeing to a much more expensive ongoing subscription to puchase products which they will ship to you and charge you if you do not return the initially ordered free trial of product within 14 days of its being shipped. Likely impossible to get it and get it back in that time frame and then you are looking at anything from $179.95 on up. I immediately contacted them (within one day) and am now involved in a crazy back and forth email conversation trying to cancel these orders and advising I will return product immediately upon receipt without opening if said product arrives. They continue to try and get me to purchase more or charge me for this "free trial" but I have now blocked my credit card.

While I am not sure if what they are doing is actually fraudulent it is certainly questionable business practice, tho I freely admit I was foolish to ever engage with them in the first place – caught in the trap of my own vanity! I note however pictures of many famous people being used to promote the products on the website – Goldie Hawn, Barbara Streisand, Ellen DeGeneres, (they had me at Diane Keaton!) and wonder if these folks have given permission for their images to be used in this way or if they are actually involved in making money out of this?
