Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order

The scammer contacted me on an item I had for sell on Facebook then sent me a fake check with an amount that was $1000 over the asking price. He then asked me to deposit the check, keep the amount for the item and give the remainder of the money to his "movers". I attempted to edeposit the check and luckily my bank notified me that the check was unreadable. I then took the check to the bank itself and was told that it was fake.
