Type of a scam Debt Collections

A female called my elderly father on Friday, December 27, 2019 and stated that she was calling from The Home Depot. She asked for my father by name, he responded, and she asked is this ???, he replied yes. At that point she advised that this was an attempt to collect a debt, and the call may be recorded. He was asked for his d.o.b. and name again. She then noted that his account was delinquent and asked if he would like to make a phone payment to bring his account current. My father said yes, but hung up the phone. I immediately called The Home Depot, I confirmed that his account was current, as it should have been. I advised the customer service rep that someone just called my father posing as a debt collector from The Home Depot, I provided the phone number used yet the scammer, and they confirmed that it was a scam and the call came from China.
