Type of a scam Tech Support

I was blocked out of my Facebook account on Friday and to get some tech support, I googled “Facebook Helpline” which brought up a phone number 844-785-8425 that I called. I first spoke with a Kim Wells ?? who very quickly told me that my IP address had been compromised, that I had no firewall, and that 11 other non-U.S. users were in my account and there was evidence of a virus called Alureon. He then went onto say that I needed to speak to a Level 9 Tech Support Person and I was transferred to “Steve Rogers” via a very crackly connection he then had to replace the call (he called me back). We talked for a very long time and he eventually took over control of my computer to begin working on it. He told me just to leave my computer running and that he was going to do a very long list of repairs ending with installing “Dell Sonic NSA Security 2600” and that I should Fedex a check on Monday (we spoke on Friday) for $999.99 which would pay for lifetime protection on my desktop and all our devices on our home WiFi. I was told to mail it to Target Solutions LLC in Des Plaines, Illinois. He also told me that anyone calling us about any of our home devices should first give me the security code STDY2107 or we should not talk to them. That evening we started to do our own digging about this company and Steve Rogers himself only to read that it was all a scam. Therefore on Monday we brought my desktop to the Geek Squad at Best Buy where almost immediately our technician, Josh, was instantly able to tell us it was a scam and that we should NOT send “Steve” any money. He removed several new icons that Steve had placed on my desktop and said they would keep it for several days to do a thorough cleaning out and protection set up. Josh also stated that there is indeed a firewall on the desktop which Steve said there wasn’t. Steve also tried to call both my house and my cell phones over 5 or 6 times on Monday but I didn’t answer the phones. I’m sure he was trying to find out what the Fedex tracking number was for my check which we never sent…fortunately! No attempts since then so he’s probably figured out we’re onto him.
