Type of a scam Tech Support

Yesterday, 11/11/17, I happened to be reading different news websites on the computer. I went on one that I don’t often go to, USA Today. All of a sudden, my computer started talking to me and then I saw an ALERT appear on my screen. It said my computer has a virus and I need to take action, call 1-888-554-3376 right away. If I closed out of the alert screen, the alert said that my computer applications would begin to crash.

Out of fear, I called and was actually convinced by the scammers to email a photo of a check for $700 made out to Tafzoom LLC. This is the amount they said it cost for 3 years worth of antivirus coverage for the computer and smart phone. The scammers talked to me and they tried to stress that I needed to get the protection for my computer right away or else the viruses would spread.

I emailed the check, and then they did their scan of my computer for viruses. I am sorry I did this in the first place.

After they finished scanning and ended their remote into my computer, they sent me an invoice.
