Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order

I received an email from Survey Report, Inc. (Michael Tincknell, Research Manager) to participate in a shopping survey that would pay $250.00. I had done a survey before through Survey Monkey with no problem, and this company had Survey Monkey as part of their email indicating I was prequalified from previous surveys. I verified my address and received a package sent Priority Mail Express with a letter and a cashier’s check for $1525.00. I was instructed to reply by email or text with my full name, phone number and the amount of the check I received, and then I would get instructions on my survey. It was sent from Los Angeles, but paid for in pounds, not dollars.

Luckily I have read about these scams of sending more money in the form of a check. It was a cashier’s check from FirstLight Credit Union. Even though i knew it was a scam at that point, everything on the check looked legitimate, except the website address on the check was wrong. I called FirstLight and they verified that it was a fake check and they have an investigation going into these scams.
