Type of a scam Tech Support
An 80-year-old consumer reported to BBB that a pop-up ad appeared on his computer saying that Microsoft is having issues with his computer. It gave him a phone number to call. The consumer called and the operator said his computer needs protection for 2 years for $445. The consumer paid the fee. In April, the operator called back saying his computer is still broken. The consumer then became suspicious and called his credit card company, who told him this was a scam. However, they were unable to refund his money.
