Type of a scam Employment

I applied to for a Customer service, data entry job on indeed. They contacted via text message about two weeks afterwards. They wanted to do a Google Hangouts interview. After a series of questions about my work experience with some questions about my personal information sprinkled in, I "got the job". Requirements were "You must have a bank account, driver’s license card, fluent in english, clear of criminal charges, at least 40wpm average, 18+. Job entailed scheduling appointments, entering customer information, invoicing, managing employee files, utilizing Microsoft excel, word and access inputting purchase orders and other various administrative tasks into a computer database. Offering benefits after 2 months, 5 day training, and orientation. Offering $20/hr during training, $25 afterwards. They didn’t ask for my social, but they did ask was for my full name, address, email and phone number and overnight express mailed a check in my name for almost $5,000. Scary. The check is in a different name (which was Park Lanes Bowling, inc.; DBA PARK BOWL, 4175 Maridian street, Bellingham, WA 98226) from the company (Super Technology Solutions, inc.), and the address on the package is from a different company name and address from BOTH the company and the check (Phyllis Wilts, 9626 Vintenzo Dr, Pasco, WA, 99301). They asked me to quickly deposit the check and buy a list of expensive software products, like Intuit Quickbooks Accounting software, AccountEdge Accounting software for windows, Quickbooks pro, General ledger software, etc ( About ten different bookkeeping, accounting and business software) and to buy it at a vender they didn’t tell me as of yet because I’m not moving further. It doesn’t seem right. A large check sent out to someone who didn’t get their background checked or actually met? I MUST cash this immediately? I want to know if I should also shred this check or send to someone? Like an agency or office that handle these things? I have no clue what to do.. In short it feels like an employment AND a check scam.

I was contacted via email for a work from home position. We conducted an interview through google hangouts. I was offered the position the same day. I was told a check would be sent to me to get the neccessary software needed for the position. Upon receiving the check, noticed my name was spelled wrong on the check but right on the envelope addressed to me. I was already hesitant about this job because it just sound to good to be true. 22/hr plus benefits after 4 weeks. Once i started asking more questions about contact information, all communication stopped. I shouldve known. Too many grammatical errors when we would communicate with each other.
