Type of a scam Credit Repair/Debt Relief

I received a letter with a voucher in the amount of $26,000 to reduce my current loan. I was to call 888-285-8845 immediately as there was a limited number they could help. It looked like a real check but nowhere on the voucher was a financial institution listed. On the back was a place to sign the voucher and turn it in. I called the ScamPulse.com and was told that it was a scam, that should I call the number back, they would ask for my personal information and want me to pay them money.
