I fell for this yesterday and it was an area code in NY but I know Spectrum is national so I listened to their special promotion, which was saying they were working with AT&T and I could get a special rate for 2 years, plus since I was a long time customer a $250 gift card, etc. There would be a one-time installation fee of 19.98 and they needed a credit card for that, but guy also asked for the 3-digit code on back of card and then said they needed to verify my credit rating and asked for last 4 digits of my social security number. He also wanted my Driver’s License number, etc. They set up appointment this Sat. for installation. I thought it sounded suspicious and called my credit card company to check recent payments and it was ok but I decided to cancel card and get a new one! I did try to call back on the number he gave me and it went to a recording so I left message that I wanted to cancel the service and that the credit card number I gave them was now invalid.

A woman with a very foreign accent called and offered me a discount on my cable bill, to $145 a month, no wait, $135 a month, then finally her price went down to $130 a month. Same service, stating that AT&T and Spectrum are working together to give their customers the best available rates. I did not know that AT&T and Spectrum had merged? She gave her name as only "Alex" with a call back number of 315-407-9043. I tried calling it and got a strange voicemail.

Spectrum cable company is soliticing our home phone number (256-351-0435) for a few weeks now. They are using bogus phone numbers on their calls that show up as a different computer selected local number each time. The number appears to be local but shows up as out of area on caller id. It is a computer generated voice and I hang up as soon as I hear it.

I received this email from Spectrum (Charter Communication). We do currently have an account with Charter, but due to misspellings, punctuation, and beginning a sentence with lower case letter, I knew this was a scam. I am sending to you to help prevent others from being scammed by being tricked to give out their account payment information.

SCAM ALERT!! SPECTRUM CUSTOMERS !!!
We got a call yesterday, Fri. April 17, 2020, from a David Smith (he had a foreign accent). He offered us a deal that we could save $70 on our bill every month. He was going to cancel our present plan and sign us up on a new plan and also give us new cable boxes. And someone would come out in 7 days and set it all up. Then he said he would check into to double check and call us back in a couple of hours. In the mean time we called the number he called on. "number is disconnected" ……Well, he did call back….today, Sat. April 18, 2020. David Smith again. Conversation continued to him asking us for our Spectrum security number. RED FLAG! Then We asked him about the "disconnected" number and he said he didn’t understand why that happened. He pressed for our security number. We told him no and hung up.
The numbers he called on are:
419-373-9438 or 419-298-9522
We called SPECTRUM to check on this "deal". They DO NOT make offers over the phone. All offers are mailed out. And, besides, they are not sending techs out now during the Covid-19 pandemic. There is NO such offer out there.
BE WARE! Don’t give out security numbers, etc. to an unverified caller. Pass this along!!

I clicked on the link and it asked for not only my social security number, credit card number, password, address etc. I called Spectrum and they confirmed they don’t ask for ssn or ccard numbers via email.
I will be calling my credit card company but am not sure how to protect my social security number.

Type of a scam Debt Collections
Scammers called my 94 year old mother telling her that her phone bill was past due and they were going to turn it off. My mother told him that she would have to call someone to take care of it…he then said the check that was sent was not signed and that’s why it was past due and asked for a credit card number to take care of the debt. My mother knows I don’t write checks to pay bills and would never give out a CC number. She told them to go a head and do what they needed to and he hung up..

At 10:03 am 9/04/19 while away a voice message was recorded while away from home. The voice mail stated Spectrum Customer Care concerning recent changes to my account. My reaction is what for I was just online viewing my account billing in the 48 hours. I called Spectrum at a number provided on their website to ask or report possible scam. I was told the number 855-707-7328 is not theirs and was grateful Of my contacting them. For caller ID shows that is Spectrum doing the calling. I find some thing is wrong for I do have nomorobo for the land line and it still got thru.

I spoke to someone for 30 minutes yesterday about the installation of our internet and they gave me time slots of one hour each to choose from so I chose 11 a.m. to noon because that’s when I could get off of work to come home for them to come and install it. today after I had got off of work and come home at 10:45 I got a call at 11:20 saying that they could no longer arrive when they are initially said and that they can arrive 3 hours later when I would be at work. when I spoke to a supervisor after the fact they told me what they can do is give us a $20 credit towards our installation fee of 49.95. the big scam of this is that I was never told that there was an installation fee at all so they were going to charge my credit card without even telling me and they came 3 hours late, I don’t know how a business can charge you when they don’t actually tell you that they’re going to charge you and then when they’re late and made you get off of work to come home to accommodate them, they told me that they’re going to charge me even though I was never told I would get charged. I don’t know how a business can operate like this.

The text message was … "Dear Customer, Avail 50% discount on your SPECTRUM bill by redeeming this Promo code: EBAY. Call at 1-855-716-8998 before the promo expires today. SPECTRUM".
I was instructed that my monthly billing would be reduced to $88/month and alll I had to do is to buy an EBAY Gift Card for my current billing (which they knew) and then call another number 1-855-636-8316 with the "Authorization code": SPE2341. I was also told that if I did so before 7pm today, I would receive a $100 gift card as well.
Of course, the real SPECTRUM knew nothing about this and confirms it is a real SCAM …
