Type of a scam Employment

I was contacted by [email protected] and asked to video interview with a Mr. Harris Cooper. His email, [email protected] messaged me via google hangouts but refused to actually video chat with me or give me a call. He wanted my personal information and inquired about what bank I used. I suspect that if I had let the scam go further he would have wanted my actual banking credentials.

The job posting was for a customer service/administrative assistant position. Mr. Harris Cooper said they were building an Austin office and needed to hire people immediately. He wanted to send me a check so I could purchase 10 different accounting softwares. I suspect this was a fraudulent check attempt.

I felt that the interview process was short and suspicious. He messaged me 5 fairly simple questions and then offered me the position. Initially I said I was interested, but then realized I could find no trace of him on the actual Sophia Genetics website. There was no news of them building an office in Austin. Further investigation proved that his user profile picture was a stock photo on google. This interviewing process is definitely a scam aimed at stealing individuals’ banking info and possibly identity. They claimed to have found my resume on zip recruiter
