Type of a scam Fake Invoice/Supplier Bill

Our business received a fax from yellow pages. At first glance it looked like they were verifying our information. We do advertise in yellow pages so we verified, signed it and faxed it back. A few months later we were hit with a $1200+ bill! None of the emails provided worked. I tried a few phone numbers and nothing worked. Finally got through to a "debt collector" by the name of Don Carter (British accent). He couldn’t tell me much about the company as he is just the "debt collector". I spoke to our real rep. for yellow pages and he gave me a few pieces of information to ask for from this company to verify if they were real but he was positive it was a scam. This yellow pages company should be able to verify results to date for the following: Geography, # of clicks and from where have they come, # of phone calls that our business has received. This is basic information any company should be able to answer via email or by mail. They could not provide anything except verbally telling me we have had 4,275 views…anyone can pull that number out of the air. I told the debt collector I will be contacting our company’s business lawyer with the information provided (lack thereof) and he will hear from our lawyer.
