Type of a scam Credit Repair/Debt Relief

Simon J Simpson (most likely fake name) messaged me on Twitter asking if I needed any help with credit card debts, student loans, medical bills, or rent. I then proceeded to tell this person my dilemma, and he told me he would clear my debt so long as I joined his philanthropist movement. I agreed, and he cleared my debt. He then proceeded to ask me to send him some $500 gift cards so he could give them to veterans. After the third one was sent, I checked my account, and found that the funds he sent me were automatically refunded back into his account. After speaking about this, he said that the funds automatically refund for those who don’t fulfill their end of the agreement. After a few more conversations and the rest of the gift cards were sent his way, he said that he wanted my address to send me a check for a little over $2000 to pay off some of the gift cards that I sent him. After refusing, and asking if he could send me a permanent payment to my credit card, he stopped sending me messages. This was 48 hours before making this report.

After looking at one of the gift cards on prepaidgiftbalance.com, it said that it made a purchase of $499.95 on TAOBAO from San Juan, CA.
