Type of a scam Employment

This company said I can have a job and they would set me up with all equipment. They just needed to pay cash for equipment and vehicle. The "owner" of said company wrote me checks in the total amount of 17500 and asked me to cash them and give him the cash. As collateral, he let me keep $3000 for advance payment. All checks were mobile deposited and none cleared. I have tried to contact this person and I am now blocked from all social media and phone.
