Type of a scam Employment

I was sent a message via Linkdin and he said he was impressed by my work history and wanted to see my resume for a position as a virtual assistant requiring 5 hours worth of work for $400 per week. Sent resume and he offered me the job saying he would send me a $2950 check to purchase the printer and software I needed to perform the tasks and it included my first week of pay. I immediately passed on the job knowing at that point it was a scam.
