Type of a scam Home Improvement

I was contacted by email by a person who claimed to be in the military and was on active duty. He requested an estimate on a full roof replacement. He asked me if I was the owner, how old I was, and if I accepted credit cards. This was all communicated through a text message. After responding, he sent me an address to view the property and measure up the roof. We went out to the property and did so. I sent him a quote via email. He emailed me back saying he was ok with the pricing and the estimate and wanted to move forward with the job. He then emailed me a new text number to contact him on and told me he wanted to give me a down payment with his credit card. I responding back saying I wanted to meet him out at the property to go over the job, execute the contract, pick a shingle color out. He then texted me and said he won’t be around for another 2 months and really wanted the work to be done before he came back with his family. I knew something was up, and went with my gut instinct and called the realtor, because their was a for sale sign on the lawn. The realtor insured me that the house was still on the market, there was no such person buying the house, and that this was a total scam. Needless to say I didn’t entertain the scammers text after that.
