Our business received a call from "Cindy Johnson" claiming she was with Rocky Mountain Power and our power was due to be interrupted at 3pm today. She said we owe $32,000. She said in order to stop interruption for 96 hours we had to hand carry $2000 into their office in Hurricane. We got her name and her number and said we would call her back. We contacted the actual Rocky Mountain Power and they advised us this was a huge scam and they had been getting calls about it all day. We then contacted her again… gave her a fake business name and a fake employee name and she "pulled up the account" and said the same thing. We told her we are reporting her and we know it is a scam. She then hung up and blocked our number. Beware!!

First I received a call from a truck technician saying they were in route to turn off my electricity because of a past due balance. Told me to call the customer service phone number so they didn’t turn off service that day. After calling the 1-888 number they told me to go to the nearest same day payment center to pay the outstanding balance and an additional $400+. Their number was convincing and they had information about a past due balance that I had previously but I had set up autopayment to settle. Said I had to use cash or debit card to go and settle the payment or they would turn off the electricity to our business. Said to call them when I got to this nearest location. I then called a different Rocky Mountain Power phone number and found out this was a scam. The people called me back asking when I was going to make payment and I told them them I knew it was a scam and they stayed on the phone and talked about how I was a smart man and they would keep trying to find someone else that would fall for their scam.

Despite their own website warning of this exact scam, I was called and threatened with my power being shut off (over a month after starting service) if I did not provide 2 forms of ID through fax. When I expressed concern over that they reluctantly agreed to accept it by certified mail saying they didn’t think that was secure. They refused to accept my offer to physically visit an office and prove my identity.
