Type of a scam Tech Support

This company posed as an affiliate of apple support. They blocked me out of my computer with a message that said my computer had been compromised and to call their number for support. I tried restarting my computer and the same message came up. I tried to call apple support direct, but could not get ahold of anybody at that time. I called the number and the man on the other end identified himself as a member of Buzztech IT team, working with apple. He told me that my computer had been hacked but that the it was not complete. He said three different groups were attempting to access my information, but he could fix it. He assured me repeatedly that he was affiliated with apple support. Against my better judgement, I decided to trust him. He charged $249 to fix my computer and $149 for a year of tech support to ‘secure’ my devices. When the charges came out on my credit card they were to RG SECURITY SOLUTIONS. This happened approximately a year ago, and I have since then come to understand that this is a new common scam. After learning of this action, I did make an appointment with apple support…the real apple support…and spent three hours on the phone with them (for free, I might add) actually securing my computer. I believe this is, or should be, completely illegal. I understand marketing is a part of business, but locking someone out of their computer and mis-representing yourself is in no way an ethical attempt to gain clients. Also, my credit card company, is unwilling to refund the money charged because of ‘services received’. So if you ever receive a message like this on your computer, disregard it and make an appointment with apple support.
