Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order

Scammer sends check for large amount of money made out to intended victim. Victim is supposed to deposit the check. Scammer also include fake Walmart giftcard survey as well as detailed steps on how to buy Walmart and Steam gift cards (presumably from money sent by scammer via check) from Walmart. Victim is to text the card numbers to the scammer. The victim then gets $300 left from the check. Scammer warns victim not to inform Walmart that they are buying giftcards for the purposes of this "survey". Victim ends up buying scammer gift cards from own money since fraudulent check does not pass.
