Type of a scam Debt Collections

I received a letter stating that they were a bill collection agency and were collecting from me $309.19. Apparently, according to them, I owed their client, Mercy Hospital Washington from the years 2012 and 2013. It is interesting, that I could not tell what hospital they were talking about. Was it Washington State, Washington DC, Washington, MO. They used reference numbers instead of what the services were. I have never been at any of these hospitals in 2012 or 2013. And do not owe Mercy anything. I called RSI and they asked for my birthdate and unfortunately, I gave it. Then they asked for the last four digits of my social security number and I didn’t give that to them. I don’t remember medical people asking for that. I told them they were a scam and they said no they weren’t and that they have my birthday right. I told them that my name is a common name and that they must have the wrong person. They said they have the right birthday. Well that was after I told them my birthday. My bad. They told me it was not a scam. I hung up on them. I called Mercy. They said that they use RSI. But I really don’t think the phone numbers would match if they were compared. I am still working with Mercy. They told me that as far as they can see, I owe them nothing.

At the bottom of the letter, they had a place for credit card information if I wanted to pay by credit card.
