Type of a scam Counterfeit Product

i received a call from the Recall Notification Center, 800-705-5388 that I needed to contact the local Ford, Mercury and Lincoln dealership to order a passenger airbag that was under recall. I was then asked to whether I had an extended warranty?

when I contacted the car dealership, i was told that this was a possible scam to make people purchase extended car warranties. Their recall information indicated that i would not be contacted by telephone but by another letter indicating how to proceed regarding the recall.

I called the 800 back, asking for clarification, what the name of the company was and who the owner/president of the company was. the person could not provide any of those details but said that they were the National Service Center. she said they were not affiliated with any car company but were nation wide.they only deal with cars and if "we see a person does not have an extended warranty, we send them to our warranty department".

I looked up the National Service Center and Recall Center and neither was listed.
