Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order

I was waiting on a mystery shopping job so I thought this email was it. When I received the "package" it was a cashiers check in the amount of $2990! They wanted me to send 3 money orders, each in the amount of $843 for a total of $2530, to a person I don’t know if Chicago. The rest of the tasks were small, just get a cashier check for $10, $50 at walmart, then use the last $100 to fedex the money orders. I read that you are to never deposit a check from someone you don’t know because if it bounces you are stuck paying back everything you spent yourself. I was just looking for an easy mystery shopping job to earn a couple extra bucks in the summer when I’m not working as much.
