Type of a scam Employment

Received an mail from NPC International in regards to a work from home job from the company Raytheon. Was told to email Ruth Burnett on google hangouts to go through the interview process. Was immediately hired and told that I would be receiving a check to use for a laptop and the software needed for training and work that i needed to purchase from their vendor. BUT she would not give me a contact number or the name of the vendor. Was told to deposit the check. However when I went to the bank, they let me know that the check was sketchy and they were going to report it. I explained to them (the bank) that I had been offered a job to work at home and the check was sent to me to pay for supplies for work. Afterwards, I messaged Ruth and let her know that she was being reported as a scam. I never heard anything back.
