Type of a scam Employment

He hires you asks how much you want to get paid, you meet up at the work site with him. You work your 7-8 hours then tells you I’ll text you tonight when I find out work is tomorrow. He never does, he reads his text but doesn’t respond. 2-3 days go by like this then you ask about getting paid for the one day. He responds with when do you want to meet up but never responds with a place or time. You tell him to mail you a check. He said he did & weeks later still nothing. After that he blocked the phone number so you can’t contact him.
