I’m currently a college student and got contacted to interview for a Finance/Accounting internship at Properties Plus LLC on 6/16 and got offered the position on 6/17. The entire process was done on Trillian IM, chatting with Kellie Sampson (IM account: Kellie_01 and email: [email protected]). Due to this pandemic, it has been hard trying to find a job for this summer, so I read the employment offer and everything looked real. After I signed the contract (where they have my name, address, date of birth, phone number, email), it started getting suspicious. First, the company [email protected] sent me a $2,000 check to mobile deposit, so I can Zelle transfer the payment ($860 and $1000) to [email protected] The transfer to Bryant failed, so Kellie (the hiring manager) told to me send money to the vendor [email protected], which completed. I did it, not knowing that the funds would eventually be fraudulent and I was subject to employment scam. Afterwards, Kellie told me that there were more training materials I would need and it would be an additional $2,374 that I would need to send to the vendor. This is when I was getting really suspicious and my bank (Bank of America) contacted me saying that there has been fraud detected on my account, so I immediately terminated my contract with the company. I just filed a report with my bank, hoping that I can get my $1,860 back because the fraudulent check will be invalid and bounce back. I have an entire document that has all the interactions between me and the "employer," that I can send/attach if you want.
