Type of a scam Identity Theft

I was called. They said they were not affiiated with any VISA or Mastercard company but was helping with Identify theft. After a few minutes she convinced me to give her my creditcard # stating she couldn’t steal info from it. I told her I didn’t want the service of protecting my Identity. She told me her supervisor would call within an hour to make sure she did everything she was suppose to do. About ten minutes I received another call and I told him I didn’t want the service they were selling. He told me my card would be charged with the fee of $278.90 regardless. He was rude to me. He said in about ten days I would received in the mail the paper work. The charge would show up on my VISA bill as Preferred Saving Network from Maine. If my identity was stolen the company would fight for me. He told me if someone used my card I wouldn’t be held liabled but Identity theft I would have to clear my name. This company would help me fight to clear my name. After I got off the phone with him I card my VISA company and closed the account. They hadn’t heard of this company. Several hours later I got another call from him stating that I agreed with him about the charges. again he was rude. I believe this is a scam. I shouldn’t give my card # to them but If I stated I didn’t want the service it should have ended there. He was rude to me.
