Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order

I was contacted via text message to submit for a high paying commercial. I sent in my headshots and told I was “selected” for the ad. They asked for general info and provided info as to the further steps of the process and such. I was then told I would be receiving a check in the mail for $*** and to deposit it. I would be keeping $*** as a down payment and sending the rest for wardrobe, etc. However, the check was printed incorrectly and eventually labeled as fraud. They had what appeared to be a proper website as it was copyrighted and everything. There were no red flags when I googled it and they even had an address I could look up in a place that didn’t stand out too much. I was in contact with them both by email and text message. This was a very well conducted scam.
