Website looks legitimate and lets you fill in your passport application online. It has three options for renewal (passport renewal, new passport and child’s passport). You can also "expedite" having it sent to you for an extra CAD$ 29.

It hindsight it would have been fairly easy to see on the first page – where there is a mention in orange: "Passport Assistance is a privately owned website that is not owned or operated by any government agency" – that the website is fishy but I was in a hurry to renew my child’s passport and overlooked it.

This company masquerades as a direct application process for the Government of Canada. I realized this part way through filing the form to apply for my passport so I closed the website/app immediately, yet they charged my credit card $216 even though I only put in 25% of the info required on the app and closed the website. They ignored my complaint email and phone calls and I had to report them as fraud/scammers to my credit card company who then disputed the charge and issued me a new credit card.

Total money lost $75

Type of a scam Online Purchase

I wanted to renew my passport, and this website made it seem like they would send in the application and you would receive your passport after paying $216.96. They make you pay before you even fill out the application. THEN in the email they state that you have to pay for the passport AFTER you applied online… So I am essentially paying $220.00 to have them "verify" my application… which is what the passport office does, and you still have to go out and pay the extra $160 for you actual passport ontop…

I contacted them to say that they were false advertising and that I had no idea that I wasn’t actually getting my passport, and they told me they would cancel it for me but that I have to pay them $75.00 to keep my information "safe". I asked for a way to dispute the charge since it’s absolutely ridiculous to pay $75.00 for nothing, and they told me to go through my credit card company. I asked if they were a scam and they obviously said no.

The phone number is also associated with a website called passport online, which says that you get your actual passport from them, so there is a huge miscommunication between what actually happens.

As well, if you go to click the help button to get more information, it just takes you to the payment page… DO NOT FALL FOR THIS!!!

Type of a scam Online Purchase

Filled out an online application form for a passport (finding out later that you can’t do a passport online). After completing the form and agreeing to a $75.00 cancellation fee if I were to cancel, I received no receipt, no indication my application was complete. I emailed this company as there is not contact phone number to advise. I received an email with a list of charges totally $246.97. I immediately emailed them back and advised them to cancel immediately and I would be contacting my credit card company. I immediately contacted my credit card company to advise (but was told I would need to wait 15 days to file a dispute). I then went to the actual passport office (which I should have done in the first place). I paid and obtained my official receipt of payment. I was also advised by the person I spoke with that passport express is a scam. I emailed passport express confronting them about this scam. The next day, Passport Express emailed me a reply and advised they would be reimbursing me everything except the $75.00. I replied back that this was a good way to make $75.00 and I would be disputing the charge. Passport Express did not deny the scam accusation and they also charged me the full amount of $246.97. They stated this fee was for online questionnaire, case worker, review of application and error and corrections synopsis. This DOES NOT include the passport itself! A 10 year passport is $160.00 in which I paid to the actual passport office the very same day. BUYERS BEWARE
