Dear Sirs,

Sometime last fall when I started to log into my online banking account and had just inserted my name to get to the security section, a notice popped up informing me the bank’s data base may have been breached. It suggested I should monitor my credit score in the future months to ensure my account wasn’t attacked. It informed me that I could get a credit report for $1.

In October I got my statement from Discover showing a charge of $39.95 from OTL*SCORESENSE.COM. I contacted Discover and found this was to be a monthly recurring charge. I contacted my bank and was informed there was never a data breach and the pop up was not from them. I disputed the transaction with Discover on the basis of OTL*SCORESENSE.COM having invaded my bank’s online banking system and by so doing, misrepresenting themselves. Discover has taken the position that I enrolled in the monthly recurring charge program and not having read the fine print is on me and I owe the $39.95. They did stop the recurring charges, so that is no longer an issue.

To add insult to injury the same charge popped up the following month on a second credit card. I was able to squash that one without going thru the appeal process.

I will pay the $39.95 grudgingly to Discover, however, I am taking this opportunity to make this unsavory and unethical business practice known to the media, the ScamPulse.com and regulating authorities. If the message about the data breach had not been inserted between the start of my log on to my online banking account and the password and other identifiers in my bank’s security system, I would not have assumed it was from my bank and not fallen for this scam.
