Type of a scam Tech Support

My mother a senior citizen received a pop up message on ipad stating she had a virus and needed to call this number asap for tech support. She did and they told her they could fix it for 599.00 . Sh e gave them her checking account , routing number, said they would take care of problem, had her go on computer as well and they installed an icon for future reference on her computer for tech support. Even asked her about her signature and how she signed her name and sent her a copy of what her check would look like.

we have closed the account and been to the bank , but concerned about the icon on computer.

Type of a scam Tech Support

Computer flashed a message and said it was going to crash. It had a technical support number to call in order to fix the problem. Called the number and they said they were with "Optimum Global Services". They used remote login to work on your computer but only put more viruses and malware on it. About 6 months later they call again offering to fix problems. They said they didn’t fully fix the first problem so they will reimburse you the amount you paid. I declined to have them work on my computer again so I do not know what they would do if you tried to get reimbursed. They are persistent and seem legitimate.
