Type of a scam Sweepstakes/Lottery/Prizes
I received a mailer promising the grand prize "1 YR FREE Enrollment & 1 Month Free Personal Training" with my local Omni Fitness. I went in to claim my prize only to find out that my "free" year would cost me $39/month and would require a contract. The only thing free is the ENROLLMENT FEE which is not the same as the ENROLLMENT.
I’m reporting this as a scam because some people might not realize that the membership is not free until they have already signed, or feel that they are obligated to buy when they get there. I don’t know if this is illegal or not, but it is definitely manipulative, misleading, and unethical.
