Type of a scam Employment

I was contacted by Nicole and told I was being considered for a job as a personal assistant at Oklo Technologies based in Canada. They then called me for an "interview" which consisted of three questions; then a second person called me who claimed to be the HR manager named Rodney Gregoire and said they wanted to hire me. He claimed they were opening an office in downtown El Paso and gave me the web site OkloTechnologies.com to look at. He said I needed to purchase a laptop which would be used for work and they would send me a check to purchase the laptop. I got a check by UPS for $4900 which indicated it was a cashier’s check from HomeStreet Bank. It seemed a bit fishy since they had not done any background checks or met with me in person; so, I called HomeStreet Bank and they could not find a cashiers check for the amount on the check which was issued on the date indicated on the check or with that check number.

I don’t know how they make money from this process but since the check is fake this is some kind of fraud attempt.
