Type of a scam Tech Support

A popup appears showing that it is from Microsoft and that your computer has been hacked. A phone number appears and it says to call to stop the hacker. When called a Microsoft Tech will say your computer has been compromised and they are able to fix it. DO NOT ALLOW THIS TO HAPPEN! They take control of your computer saying they are fixing everything. During the process I asked them how do I know they are not scammers. I was told they were a Microsoft Technician and worked for Dell computers. They have you on the phone for an hour and then tell you that your computer is no longer under warranty and they can give you a two year warranty for $299.99 with unlimited technical support. I heard a few things that were a red flag, but didn’t go with my feelings. As soon as I got off the computer I called Best Buy and spoke to a tech an he said it was a scam. I then called Microsoft and they told me the same thing. Fortunately they were able to restore my system. Now I have to try to get my money back. Be aware that anytime they ask for your credit card number it is probably a scam!
