Type of a scam Tech Support

I was on my computer and a pop up appeared stating there was an urgent problem and that I needed to call 844-444-4888 to fix it. I called the number and spoke to Dave Morris, with an accent, who took control of my computer. He said I needed to to to Target and get gift cards totaling $2,200 and call me back. The person said that he was in NY, but my caller ID said B.C., so I asked if he was in British Columbia, which he said no, NY and our office is in MO. My computer is several years old, given to me by a nephew who bought it used. I called the ScamPulse.com and was told that this was a scam. While on the phone my internet connection was cut and Dave Morris told me that he could shut down my cable, internet, phone if I didn’t pay. The ScamPulse.com told me to not pay the $2,200 and to contact a computer repair to have the computer checked.
