Total money lost $1,100

Type of a scam Government Grant

Call from the NIH and they said that I was to receive $14,580 for a personally individual grant by the government as long as I didn’t use it for beer going out doing drugs or anything like that. They kept telling me that the State of NY wouldn’t allow for funds to go through until I paid $750 in taxes which I did by purchasing ebay cards (5) totaling $1,1000. Yesterday they promised me that the grant was going to go into my account, but they said that I was to come up with $700 dollars more for the government so I tore into them and said they are nothing more than a scammer. So I got another call right after we hung up they called me back and said the they were from social security and I was under investigation.

I was contacted on Facebook IM by a friend on my friend list. This is someone I do not typically communicate with. Immediately they brought up information about a grant through the National Institute of Health. They then asked me to text the number above. I contacted them and they asked me to provide very personal information by text. I hope this helps catch these scammers.

Type of a scam Government Grant

They called me and said I’m selected for a grant that I did not have to apply for. They explained that I would get it by providing my bank account or credit card number. I can use it any way I like but not for gambling or drug purposes etc. I did not give them any info and told them this was a scam. They said they can assure me it’s not and said they were in Bethesda Maryland when I asked where they were. Of course it’s all foreign people answering the phone and the guy had to check where they were he put me on hold to ask someone where they were-red flag. I told them to stop calling and that I would block their number. You only apply for grants.
