Type of a scam Tech Support

A pop-up on our home computer made it appear that our computer was locked and that we had technical problems with our computer and needed to call a particular phone number immediately. We called the phone number and were connected with someone by the name of "Ashish" and he had us go to www.support.me and he provided a code and asked us to download an app that allowed them control of our home PC. Their goal was to get money from us to fix this supposed "problem". This company claimed they are independent technical support and could fix our "firewall issue" for less than the manufacturer charges. Our instincts told us that if there indeed was a problem then we should be receiving alerts directly from the computer manufacturer so we chose to end the call. We called the manufacturer only to be advised that this was a scam and they walked us through the steps to erase this spam from our computer. Long story short, this company tries to trick people into paying them money to provide "technical support" through trickery. This is morally and ethically wrong. How do these people look at themselves in the mirror.
