Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order
I posted a listing on miindia.com looking for a roommate in my apartment located at Sterling Heights, MI.
I get this text message from a person going by name, Melissa Martinez, working as a Nurse at Medical City Green Oaks Hospital, Dallas TX. The number is (601)385-1806 and email [email protected]
The person says he/she is transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Troy, Michigan and would be working there for a year and hence looking to secure accommodation. When I tried to make a call, the person would not answer, texts back stating he/she is on vacation and not to make disturb calls. The person said to secure her place he/she sent a check for security deposit. When I received the check the amount was way too much $3,970 (Security deposit was only $525) and check itself seemed fake.
The person has asked me if I had received the check. I, being fully aware of this type of scam, started faking my replies, stating I would cash the cheque soon, I have the fake cheque and also the paper that came along with it.
Please take immediate action/beware of this type of scams. Thank you
