Type of a scam Credit Cards

Mediavex and affiliate sites pop up on real websites under disguise and offer access to eBooks for free. But they require a credit card for the trial. They promise not to charge you but the fine print buried somewhere advises an autopay default function. They may not charge you initially, but eventually it costs $39.99/month WITHOUT NOTIFICATION of any type, and even if you don’t use the account. I tried to cancel multiple times with no luck and because my email address changed, it was even more difficult. I have found multiple complaints about this site. They do not respond to emails and online inquiries. Phone calls were useless. It appears to be a money-making scheme. My experience: I was trying to access a textbook in the fall and was forced to enter CC info to access, but the book was not even available on their site. I cancelled immediately but did not get a confirmation. No charges for the first six weeks so I assumed I was in the clear. But, I didn’t notice that they started charging me a couple months later (almost February), and have continued to do so for the past several months, and now I can’t get them to stop the charges or refund my money. I will have to cancel the credit card. I feel so stupid to be scammed like this.
