Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order

Good Afternoon,

About 2 weeks ago, I received a message on Linked In from what looked like one of my professional colleagues regarding a secret shopper opportunity and was sent a link to put in my name, address, email address and phone number. Since the message seemed to come from my colleague, I completed the information in the link. About a few hours later, I received a another message from this same colleague stating that his account was hacked. Finally yesterday I received a priority mail piece and inside it had a photo copy of a letter congratulating me for being accepted and instructions of my "first" assignment. Then I realized it was the same scammer group who mailed me this information. Finally, I looked and saw there was a check of over $2,500 to complete the first "assignment". Before this mail piece arrived I have received a series of calls and texts of which I have not answered and have alerted the authorities about the mail piece and check received. I am informing you of this so others are educated.

Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order

I was sure to believe that I was going to have a decent at home job so i could supplement my income since i was off work. I even took at far as to go to 2 police departments to check to see if it was a scam and they both told me it looked legit. I received a check for $1953.took it to my bank and it cleared. So my first assignment I was instructed to go purchase 3 five hundred dollar gift cards that would be used toward next assignment. and do a customer survey they need pictures of cards receipts and survey to make sure I actually completed my assignment. as soon as they received it the bank called and said the check was NSF and the bank it came from was no longer available to secure the amount. it was a cashiers check that didn’t not actually come from that bank but was printed by someone else. So my bank wants me to repay the $1953 plus NSF fees and interest. please be extremely careful and don’t get ripped like me.
