I posted a used car for sale on Craigslist. The person reached out via text message with an area code from a different state. They lead with a couple of generic, enthusiastic questions about the car before suggesting i purchase a vehicle title report from the website in question. I already suspected this was a scam so I asked “where are you located?” They responded that they live right by the town where my area code is from (which is nowhere near where I now live and posted the listing) so I knew they were not truly interested in the car, but had simply panicked or googled my area code when I asked about their location.

My cell phone rang and this recorded voice asked if my car was still for sale and I said “yes” they immediately hung up like they were getting my voice print… then they texted me and sent me a web address “lookupmyvin.net” and an email address “[email protected]” I believe this is a scam…
