Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order

I am a music teacher promoting my lessons on Lessons.com. I have received a real student off of the website in the past which keeps me open minded to the type of people I meet there in search of lessons.

However I have recently been in contact with two people who both wanted to book, but then told me that they mistakenly sent a check for far more money than our lessons cost and ask me to refund back the money after receiving the check.

Both numbers sent me the same exact story and message when I thought they were different people with different numbers. Almost caught me if it weren’t for the second person sending me the exact same thing. That message looks like this –

Hello good morning I have already made an arrangement for you payment, it has been mailed to your address which you will receive in some couples of days time, but unfortunately my account just confirmed to me now that there was a mistake on our said amount 1950$ check was mailed to you, please do let me know once you receive it and revert back the differences to my Son and Grandma through cash app or zelle thanks

Do not fall for this. That is a lot of money.
