Type of a scam Employment

I applied for the job via ziprecruiter. I was interviewed via google hangouts (only the chat function). Everything seemed to be above board and I was offered the job. I researched the company (Leighs Construction) and they seemed to be a real company. I was notified by my "hiring manager" that they would be sending me a check to purchase a work laptop (as I would be working from home). I was never asked to provide any other personal information besides what was already on my resume. When the check came I was still a little hesitant since the company’s name was not on the check. So I decided to call the bank and see if they could confirm. The bank (Delta Community Credit Union) had no record of the check or the company.
