Type of a scam Other

I contacted a breeder about an available puppy that I found online, whose website looked reputable. The site said the breeder and puppies were registered with the American Kennel Club (AKC) and even listed three names of doctors that take care of their litters. The website name was kingsboxerpuppy.com. They responded via email ([email protected]), and said the puppy was available and asked questions such as, "have you had this breed before?" And they said, "just making sure the puppy was going to a good home". We communicated via email about 5 more times, and I requested more pictures and a video to be sent of the puppy. The scammer then sent me pictures and a video to my phone via text message. All pictures/video were of the same dog that was listed online. The breeder said they were located in Virginia, but would be willing to ship the puppy to me. From there I told them I was going to drive from Michigan to Virginia to see the dog first, and they requested a deposit of $300 be given to hold the dog. I paid this via Zelle and the email he gave me to receive the money was: [email protected] and on my Zelle transaction receipt it said "you sent $300.00 to NANGOH." The scammer requested a picture of the Zelle transaction to be sent to him- this I am not sure why?? The scammer sent me an address of where to meet at a public location (due to COVID and a time.) The address was: 6530 Trading Square in Haymarket, VA 20169.

After driving 8 hours to Virginia and calling this person multiple times I realize I had been scammed. When I called the phone number from another phone he picked up and said "I do not understand, I will transfer your call." He did this three times before the number was deactivated. I called my bank immediately (Bank of America) to see if they could trace the Zelle transaction and they said they could only issue a report.

I just don’t want anyone else to be fooled by these adorable puppies on their website. I am a nurse in Detroit and took two days off work during this COVID pandemic to go meet this guy for the dog. I would hate if someone rearranged their schedule even more than I did to meet this guy and then find out it was a scam. Not only was I robbed of my time and money, I was also robbed of the pure enjoyment and excitement of leaving with a new puppy. One I looked really hard to find, and one that was going to be there for me since we just had to put our puppy down a few weeks ago :(.
