Type of a scam Travel/Vacations

A person representing a Broker Firm (trip.com) called and offered me 3x the amount I paid for my timeshare. They seemed very legit and website initially checked out. They then said they need 10% from both the buyer and seller to transfer the funds. I didn’t believe them so they sent me a fake guarantee document via email saying that if this didn’t go thru, than they would release the funds to me from there brokerage account. They then said i would be reimbursed for these funds with the wire transfer. After I sent them the money, i got a call from a firm out of New York, IBCF, (917-341-2027) saying there was a hold on my money by SAT. Then i got a threatening email from SAT saying i am trying to avoid paying capital gains taxes and a warrant may be issued for my arrrest. This is how they got another 4k off me. After I paid that, I then got a call that my bank swift code was entered incorrectly so I needed to pay another 4.6% transaction fee to rewire the money. Like a fool, i paid that as well. Then i finally got a call from trip.com saying I needed to pay the 5% broker fee. That was the final straw for me. I began investigating even more online and found similar stories. I got duped. I feel like a fool. Hopefully, this complaint will be read by someone and stop them from making the same foolish decisions as I do. Bottom line, if it sounds to good to be true, assume it is. I contacted BBB and the Attorney Generals in my state along with the state of Nebraska. Unfortunately, the FBI doesnt’ get involved in these cases unless the money loss is greater than 20k. If this happens to you, please reach out to the Attorney Generals office so they can shut these scammers down.
